50th celebration

reflection and discussion questions:
  1. Review:  Last week, Phil talked about Jesus' words on taking the log out of our own eye before trying to take the speck out of our neighbor's eye.  He asked us to exercise humble self-examination, humble candor, and humble openness to help others.  Which of these was more difficult for you this week?  (Or which has been most difficult for you over the course of your life?)

  2. Take a moment in prayer, welcoming the Spirit's presence. Then go back and read 1 Corinthians 15:8-10.  If you were there, do you remember which phrase Phil used as his focus from this passage?  (Hint: think Popeye!)  On a Sunday when Grace Church was celebrating a milestone, why do you think Phil chose this passage to begin from?

  3. Phil said he tries to find a few minutes on each of his boys' birthdays and tell them again the story of who they were named after.  Why is it important for us to remember that we are "Grace Church."

  4. Read Ephesians 2:4-5 and 8.  How does it help us to know that Paul was not writing these words to a person but to a church?  As a church, how should a passage like this shape the way we live, worship, and serve with one another?

  5. How have you experienced grace in your life?  Also, how have you experienced God's grace at Grace Church?

  6. How can you become a messenger of grace to your brothers and sisters at Grace?  How can you become a messenger of grace in your neighborhood or workplace?

  7. Consider some practical ways to express this grace with those whom you come in contact this week. Then pray and ask for the Lord's grace to be WITH you.

We'd love to hear from you!
