Week ten: review
reflection and discussion questions:

Regardless whether you use these questions for group or personal reflection, there's a LOT here, so don't feel any need to cover everything!  Just use the questions below as a guideline for deeper thought and a way to stay present to 2 Peter through the week.

  1. This coming Sunday (March 30th) will be our final week in 2 Peter.  In preparation, take a moment and reread 2 Peter.  Here are a few questions we have discussed so far to review.  â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

    • (Ch 1:3-4) Partaker of the divine nature. Jean mentioned that the goal of our salvation is to be united with Christ.  (Galatians 2:20; Colossians 1:26-27; John 17:21-23) How does this shape your understanding of salvation and all that we have been saved into?

    • (Ch 1:5-9) Christian scholar Frank Gaebelein said that "knowing God is the beginning, the continuance, and the goal of the Christian life." If this is so, how do we let this shape the way we live our day-to-day living?

    • (Ch 1:10-15) Do you believe Peter when he says that  in Christ, we already have all we need for life and godliness?  If we already have all we need, what do you think we have to "be all the more diligent" to do?  What are the dangers if we don’t?

    • (Ch 2:10b-22) For the past several paragraphs (all of chapter 2), Peter has written in great detail about false teachers, especially their character, message, and future.  Why do you think this matters so much for Peter to discuss with the church?  What is at risk for the church if he doesn't?

    • (Ch 3:1-9) How should we understand the patience of God?  How does this impact our relationships with friends and neighbors who don't know Jesus?

  2. As you reflect upon 2 Peter, what stands out to you?  What takeaways are God bringing to mind? How is He calling you to respond?

  3. Peter reminds the church in this letter that even in the midst of the "waiting" (3:13), God is moving. In this season of "waiting" and preparation we call Lent, how is God moving...in you?  In His church?  In your community?  And how can we partner with Him in it?

Next Week's Reading: ch 3:14-18
