2 peter

Week two reading: ch 1:3-4
reflection and discussion questions:

Regardless whether you use these questions for group or personal reflection, there's a LOT here, so don't feel any need to cover everything!  Just use the questions below as a guideline for deeper thought and a way to stay present to 2 Peter through the week.

  1. His divine power.  Peter says that God's divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.  What do you think he means by "all things?"

  2. Because He has granted to us all things, how does knowing this impact your approach to your life?

  3. What are some places in your life that you long to see more of God's power at work? Take a moment and bring them before the Lord and ask for His help.

  4. Through the knowledge of Him. In vs 3, the word for "knowledge" in the Greek is epignosis: an intimate, personal, experiential knowledge (as opposed to mere information). Other times that Peter uses this word in this letter are 1:2, 1:8, and 2:20.  What are some of the benefits Peter describes that come to us as a result of "knowing" God in this way?

  5. This past Sunday, Jean mentioned that this knowledge of Him comes from the Spirit.  Read 1 Corinthians 2:9-12.  How has God's Spirit grown your knowledge of Him?  What have you grown to know more of God over time (His love, forgiveness, mercy, etc)?

  6. Jean also described how the Spirit grows our knowledge of God through His word.  She called it a "companionship" with His word.  What does it mean to be a companion with the Scriptures?  What are some ways the Spirit has spoken to you through His word?

  7. Peter highlights that God has granted to us His precious and very great promises.  God's promises are all throughout the Bible.  Consider Psalm 103.  What promises do you see there?  What other promises come to mind?  Take a moment and write down any that come to mind, and offer to God a prayer of thanksgiving and gratitude.

  8. Partaker of the divine nature. Jean mentioned that the goal of our salvation is to be united with Christ.  (Galatians 2:20; Colossians 1:26-27; John 17:21-23) How does this shape your understanding of salvation and all that we have been saved into?

  9. What does it mean that we are partakers of the divine nature?

Next Week's Reading: ch 1:5-9

Does anything stand out to you?  If so, circle or underline it.  Write down any thoughts or questions that come to mind.

We'd love to hear from you!
