Regardless whether you use these questions for group or personal reflection, there's a LOT here, so don't feel any need to cover everything!  Just use the questions below as a guideline for deeper thought and a way to stay present to 2 Peter through the week.

1. If you were there, Phil conducted a little exercise at the beginning of his talk to illustrate the fact that there are lots of distracting voices clamoring for our attention throughout the day.  What did that help you see or understand about your own distractions and about the importance of listening for God's voice?  (If you weren't there, just skip to the next question.)

2. Read about the Transfiguration of Jesus in Mark 9:2-13.  Why do you think Peter brings up this moment in this letter?  How does this fit Peter's purpose in this letter?

3. At the Transfiguration, God interrupts the disciples to say, "This is my beloved Son, listen to Him."  If we're not listening to Jesus, then who are we listening to?  What are your own particular distractions?  And how do these distractions prevent you from listening to, or hearing, Jesus?

4. Peter says that we would "do well to pay attention" to God's word (v 19).  In what ways do you think this is true?  Perhaps consider and share some ways this has already proven true in your life, and rejoice.  And what words of Jesus are paying especially close to these days?  Pray and ask Him to reveal Himself.  

5. How can you practice tuning out the other "voices" so that you can hear Jesus more clearly and consistently?  (Keep in mind here that we're not just talking about external noise–your distractions could be on the inside as well!)

6. Is it enough just to tune out the other competing voices?  How can you practice tuning in to what Jesus is saying to you throughout the day?  How can you practice quieting your soul?  And what are the dangers if we don't?
